MY BLOG
DATE: Oct 18, 2007
I plan to utilize
this blog to discuss myself, family, the store, and a bit of odds and ends.
I also want to talk about parenting and hopefully get some feedback from all
of you visitors. Until I update this page and make it more like a blog spot
you can reply to info@all-things-christian.com and, most likely, your comments
will be posted on here.
First, I'm going to brag about my kids. God has
blessed me with three of the most thoughtful, intelligent children I know. Of
course, I'm biased. But what parent isn't? I know that their intelligence
doesn't come from me. It comes from my wife and the many hours she spent
reading books to our kids. Besides running around outside all day long,
our youngest loves to just sit on the couch, or on his bed, and read for
hours. In fact, that is about the only thing that settles him down.
He can't sit still for more than 30 seconds otherwise.
Right he just finished a book series by Bryan Davis called Dragons In Our Midst
and loved it. In fact, I did to. Some nights, I would sit down and read it to
him. Mom would come in and say "Lights out" and both of us would plead "Just one
more chapter, pleeeeaaasseee?" Some nights I would have to work late so Mom would
read it to him, or he would read it himself. I was so disappointed that I missed
out on some of the books. If your children are into the magical age of Dragon's and
are begging you to let them read Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or something
else along those lines, then try out the Dragon in the Midst series. All of
Bryan Davis's books can be found here: BOOKS BY BRYAN DAVIS
His personal web site can also be found here: DAVISCROSSING.COM
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
Daily Devotions
DATE: Oct 26, 2007
I ran across a daily devotion site today that
I just had to write about. It's called IMPACT Daily Bible Passages. There are
so many Daily Devotion sites out there that it's hard to chose just a few. But, what is special about this one
is that they concentrated their efforts to allow others to connect with and have this devotion on their websites. You can add their daily devotions to your MySpace,
Facebook, My MSN, My Yahoo, Google Home Page, as a Windows Vista Sidebar, My AOL, and the list goes on and on. They also have the old way of doing things and you can
receive their devotions in your email everyday. Or check them at at our devotions page.
Another thing I liked about this devotion format is as they change the Passage Reading and Devotions, people from all over the world can sit on Impact's homepage and
chat live about it. They also have a really well done Forums area.
IMPACT is owned and operated by Baulkham Hills Baptist Church in Australia
Check them out here.
Christmas Time
DATE: Dec 12, 2007
Any one else busy? Between work, hosting a 7th and 8th grade Sunday School Christmas Party at my house, attending Christmas Concerts, and decorating, I find it hard to stop and appreciate the real "reason for the season". Christ was born some 2000 years ago for the sole purpose of saving my soul. That is a huge reason to celebrate!
Sometimes I just need to take a time out and get my priorities straight.
Do I really need more lights for the house? Should I really buy all this "stuff" for my kids? What kind of example am I setting for my kids? These are the questions I have to ask myself.
Concerning the purchasing of "stuff", my wife and I have adopted a tradition from another family we met. The kids receive three gifts. They receive a need, a want, and a surprise. Basically, it goes off of the story of the three gifts the wise men brought for Jesus.
A need, Myrrh, was used for the healing process during Postpartum. It was also used as an embalming ointment, symbalizing the destiny of Jesus, dying on the cross for our sins.
A want, Frankincense, was used to annoint new born babies or people entering into a new phase of their spiritual lives.
A surprise, Gold, was the most valuable metal during the time of Jesus's birth. What a surprise to be blessed with Gold!
So, our children receive a need, usually some type of clothing; a want, usually something they have been asking for; and a surprise, which is, by far, the most fun to watch as the giver of the gift!
Have a blessed Christmas, slow down, and remember to celebrate Christs birthday!
God Bless!

2008

Every year seems to go by faster than the last. New years resolutions have come and gone, left in the pile resolutions still to be completed. If I have learned anything about resolutions it has been to not make too many of them, and the one I do make, ensure that they are obtainable. So, this year I have two resolutions. One, to get closer in my relationships with Jesus Christ and God, and two, read the entire bible through in a year.
I have attempted the "read your bible in a year" one twice before, only to come up short both times. But I am determine to see it through. It also helps when my three children are going for the same goal. It gives me accountablity, and also reading partners. How about you? What are your new years resolutions? Is it to lose weight, make more money, or buy that car you have been wanting? May I be so bold as to suggest that you focus on the Lord. If you establish and stregthen a relationship to the one person
who is always there for you, your year could not get any better. God bless you this new year.
